From the Harvard Study of Adult Development, a longitudinal study that has been following 724 men from two distinct group since 1938, to the Daniel Goleman works on Emotional and Social Intelligence, a seismic shift has taken place in the last 25 years acknowledging the importance and value of soft skills for success and happiness.
At issue is the lack of connection between acknowledgment and application. In organizations, soft skill development is the last thing to be implemented and the first thing on the chopping block when training budgets are tight. In youth development, there is more rhetoric than embedded programs.
